Arsenale di Venezia
The Arsenal in Venice was the largest pre-industrial complex in Europe, able to turn out a ship in a single day. It gave Venice a huge amount of power within Italy and the world. The high walls used to shield those who lived and worked inside the Arsenal from view, now they guard the Biennale and other major art events.
I’d dreamt of visiting Venice most of my life, my mind filled with stories of Marco Polo, the Silk Road, the birth of the printed book, all within the streets of a floating city. It did not disappoint. The place is a dream.
